8/28/2023 0 Comments Day and night book![]() ![]() Okay, can I just say that I loved how the author decided to include the English version and the Spanish version directly below it. Let's go!" which is one of the places I began questioning the book. For example, one page reads "when it's rainy, I'm sad. He is "just the right size." The next page describes how Quinito's grandparents are old and Quinito and his siblings are young, and then, for the next page, we come back to how Quinito's father is neat while his brother is messy and for Quinito, it "depends on the day." The book continues in this manner, only occasionally veering from the "I'm right in the middle" theme, but it is quite obvious when the book veers. The next page describes how his father is tall and his mother is short, but Quinito is neither. He's right in the middle, both in the family and during which time he wakes up. It starts off with Quinito describing how he wakes up neither early nor late, compared to his younger sister and older brother. Quinito, Day and Night is a book about a little boy and his family. Unfortunately, I do not think this book would be appealing beyond the bilingual readers (Spanish-English) for the same reasons described above. The pictures are showing mainly thick vertical black lines with an absence of empty space on its pages. The Colors used are too dark for being a children concept book. The pictures are not simple neither directly aligned with the text because they are just showing a summary of the whole reading. I do not think the book is the best options to introduce a student with the concepts of opposites, yet to reinforce the topics for a 7-8 years old reader. The reading is complex for a reader of 5 years old because it has long sentences and whole paragraphs. On the other hand, I disagree with the theme of the book aligned with the age group that it is intended. I like the book being bilingual (Spanish-English) because it brings the opportunity to the readers to practice either of the two languages. The main character is Quinito and there is also his whole family in the book including her little sister Clara, big brother Juan, Parents, grandparents, and pets. The theme is the opposite things in Quinito’s life. The book is about the daily life of Quinito and the opposites that he finds in it. Genre: Concepts, A bilingual book about opposites.
